What Does it Cost to Live in Italy

The cost of living will vary enormously depending on where you live. As a general rule, the further South you go the cheaper things are. Obviously living in a city means things carry a premium.

One excellent tip we had to working out what it was costing to live was to write down everything you spend for the first few months. I made a spreadsheet and split spending into staples, utilities, treats etc.:

  • Basic Food
  • Petrol
  • Utilities – Gas/Electric/Water
  • Taxes – Residence/Rubbish
  • Treats
  • Communications – mobile/broadband etc.
  • Hardware/Tools

I tried to account for every Euro I spent, even if it was just 1EU for a coffee. Below is a list of things that might be useful for comparison:
