Let’s face it, Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the World, and the variety of experiences can be mind-boggling. From the mountainous North with its metropolitans, through the bread basket middle, and down to the plains of the South; there’s something for everyone.
When my wife and I were looking for somewhere to settle, we narrowed our search down to Umbria pretty quickly. Our criteria were:
- close to major rail and/or road links
- less than an hour and a half to a major city
- mountainous views
- local amenities
- rural rather than urban
- not too extreme weather, but significantly better than the UK
At the time of writing (September 2015) we have been here just six months, so our exploring is still in its infancy. However, there are so many towns dotted around us that it’s impossible not to discover something or somewhere new almost every week.
We will be posting articles on new discoveries as we explore our new country. Please let us know what your experiences have been, and whether you know of somewhere that would be great to visit.
